Le Solier

The five of us (Margot, Claire, Sébastien, Karen, and I) arrived at the Château Thursday night, greeted by a very welcoming and talkative Étienne de Casonove. The next days were filled with organization, buying ingredients, and getting acquainted with the area.

Dubbed “Le Solier,” this 1500s style French castle sits atop a beautiful hill above the village Lasalle. If you find a staircase and just keep going up, opening doors, and shamelessly exploring, the history of the castle opens itself to you. You might find laminated pieces of handwritten paper explaining the artwork and specific quirks of the castle, or a book about the de Casonove family.

Beautiful forests surround the castle grounds. A mossy green path leads you through the forest down towards Les Abrigaux (where the campers and parents will be staying). If you take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the scenery, you will hear the birds singing at all hours of the day, and water delicately trickling down the side of the mountain. Continuing down to the village on stone steps, you will pass neighbors who are always ready and willing to give you directions with a big smile on their face.
